Transfers: A breath of fresh Ayre'

It pays to shop around, Gary!
With the situation regarding the club's defenders still as clear as mud, Gary Mills has been reportedly lining up a £15,000 swoop for young Tamworth defender, Lee Ayres. The 21-year old defender, who joined the Lambs last November, is reported as County's latest transfer target after Mills declared his interest in Darlington's Matt Clarke had faded.

With the small five-figure sum, Mills will be looking to lure Ayres with a lifeline back into league football after he was released by Kidderminster last season having failed to turn out Minster men last term. 16 assured performances later, however, and the man responsible for signing Ayres at Tamworth - Darren Gee, now assistant to Gary Mills at Meadow Lane, may well be pivotal to any potential move, possibly leaving Ayres pondering a transfer that would mean following Gee to Nottingham.

The Birmingham-born defender, who stands tall at 6"1, also lists Kidderminster Harriers and Evesham United as his former clubs.

However, such talk may well be speculation as word is yet to be released from the club regarding the matter. Rest assured that NCM, as usual, will keep you in the know.
