Transfer target makes shock Blades switch

Magpies boss Gudjon Thordarson had been actively chasing the experienced 30-year-old marksman, as he seeks to bolster his front-line.

Though the Icelander gave up on his ambitious loan move after the capture of Nottingham Forest's Eugene Dadi, Dyer's switch to team-up with former County boss Neil Warnock shows just how audacious Thordarson's bid was.

Dyer had been out-of-favour at Stoke City and has been unveiled alongside fellow new-boy Ade Akinbiyi by the Blades, who are currently second in the Championship table.

Thordarson, meanwhile, is still hopeful of bringing another striker into his squad before the closure of the transfer window at the end of the month.
