Thor looking to hit January sales

Hurst’s departure yesterday came as a big surprise for many of the Magpies faithful, who certainly would not have expected the club’s top ‘scorer to have left the club so abruptly.

And, while the nine-goal striker will be a huge loss, Thordarson believes that the money made available through freeing Hurst, one of the club’s higher earners, from the wage-bill will certainly pave the way for changes come the January transfer window.

Thordarson: Posied to swoop
If reports in today’s Nottingham Evening Post are anything to go by, then the Magpies fans could see an instant return on Hurst’s wages, with Thordarson reportedly lining up three new players – two strikers and a midfielder – with his new-found riches.

His kitty could be boosted further should transfer-listed Tony Scully, Matty Gill, Gavin Gordon or Matty Williams move on during the January transfer window.

Speaking to the ‘Post earlier today, Gudjon said "I would not say it has come out of the blue as this is a deal we wanted to make with him.

"The thing is, I think this will free up some options for me by releasing Hursty.

"He is one of the biggest earners and that is part of it but there is not much more I can say at this time apart from I am looking to shape up the squad in a different way."
