Thor desperate to end Deeney saga

Talented shot-stopper Deeney has been looking for a move away from Meadow Lane since turning down an improved two-year deal in the summer.

However, despite interest from a host of clubs, the 22-year-old is still without a new club, with the transfer window set to close in just 6 days.

Are you still here?
Deeney had spent the latter part of last week on trial at Bristol City, though Thordarson revealed that the custodian turned down the chance to go on-loan to Ashton Gate, with the Irish under-21 star instead keen to clinch a permanent move away from the Magpies.

"Saul turned Bristol City's first move to sign him down because they wanted to take him on loan or something like that," Thordarson told the club's official website.

"That option was there, but he wants a permanent move.

"I don't know if it rules him out of a permanent move down there though, we will have to see."

Thordarson, though, is growing increasingly frustrated with the situation. The Notts boss signed Kevin Pilkington in the summer under the belief that it was a certainty that Deeney would move-on.

However, despite interest from clubs including Sheffield United, QPR and Crewe Alexandra, Deeney remains at Meadow Lane, where he currently resides on a week-to-week deal.

The offer of a new deal for the keeper is no longer on the table, though the Magpies are unable to release Deeney as they are entitled to a decent compensation package for the highly-rated youngster.

Thordarson, however, has already agreed a deal for former Cambridge goalkeeper Shaun Marshall, but is unable to formally sign the 26-year-old until Deeney has found a new club.

"The window shuts next week, so something has to happen now," added the frustrated County manager.
