Thor beaten for award

Thordarson had been on the four-man shortlist for the award, after a run of four wins, one draw and a solitary defeat saw his team climb seven places up to ninth in League Two.

The Icelander, though, was named as runner-up to Calderwood, with Bristol Rovers' Paul Trollope and Stockport County's Jim Gannon also shortlisted.

Superstitious Notts fans have already expressed their relief at Thor missing out on the award. The Magpies went 10 games without a victory after Thordarson scooped the award for August.

Notts' upturn in fortunes have coincided with reports linking Thordarson to the vacant manager's position at Leicester City, but the Foxes now seem set to appoint Luton Town boss Mike Newell.
