John Thompson could be set to sign for the Magpies after being released by Oldham Athletic earlier today.
The defender, who has recently been excelling in midfield, has made 16 appearances for Notts this season since joining on loan in October.
Ian McParland has already declared his interest in the player and now that his contract has been paid up by the Latics, it is highly possible that he could be snapped up on a permanent deal.
Thompson's future should become clear over the next few days.
