The Magpies were crushed 3-0 at the Stadium:MK and Thommo along with the rest of the travelling fans was unhappy with the way the side let the Dons football.

Five games into the season and still yet to register a win, Thompson knows his team must do better.
Thommo...Disgusted

"It is not acceptable, and I just said to the players if they don't put their head in I will have to find someone who will," said the Notts chief.

"We didn't see us getting any free headers in their box at all, and that is what disgusted and disappointed me to be honest," he added.

Thompson broke the mould of backing his players after sub-standard performances. And, it seems at last he is willing to get tough if that's what it takes to get results.

"I won't accept that from these players because we aren't getting ripped apart," Thompson said.

Under increasing pressure, Thompson is under no illusions that Coutny have made a poor start to the campaign. He made no effort to make excuses after Friday's disappoiting game.

"We know we should have had more points on the board, and we want to win every game and we have this week to redress things," he explained.

Elsewhere, Grimsby manager Alan Buckley joined Thompson in slating his sides 4-1 surrender away at Accrington Stanley.

"We played for ten minutes out of ninety and it is absolutely pathetic," said Buckley.

"I apolgise to the fans who have made the trip as players have let

themselves and the club down," he said bluntly.

Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson played a personal tribute to his goal scoring hero on Friday, Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher scored twice as the Spireites stomped to a 3-1 win over Bury.

"He led the line well and his two goals will give him confidence," Richardson said.

Finally, Macclesfield's Ian Brightwell couldn't hide his delight as the Silkmen chalked up their first win of the new league season.

"It was our first win of the season but at the same time we defended well," he said of their all-round display.
