Thompson appoints new Coach

After being in the job just over three days, Steve Thompson has wasted little time in bringing John Gannon into the club as a steady-hand to assist his attempts to win over a so-far sceptical Magpies faithful.

JG: Knows the league
Gannon, the former assistant of Keith Curle at Mansfield Town and, latterly, Chester City prior to the pair's joined dismissal late last season, has today agreed to join the Magpies, bringing with him a wealth of experience of the lower leagues, as well as experience of the Championship.

The new Notts First Team coach – one of many of Thompson's contacts within the game – knows the well, having worked with the newly-appointed Magpies chief during their time together at Sheffield United, with Gannon today becoming Thompson's first signing, as such, since his appointment earlier this week.

Thompson, speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post earlier today, described his first recruit as a ‘great, hard-working coach'.
