Thommo: "I was pleased not to get beat"

County chief Steve Thompson has reflected on Saturday's draw with Brentford as a point gained rather than two lost.

Despite the Magpies large spells of dominance, Thommo admits they can feel happy to have avoided defeat.

He said: "I was pleased not to get beat, and I was pleased for the boys
Butcher...Praised by gaffer
because they stuck at it and the signs were there that we are a better footballing team.

"Last season we would have lost that game 1-0."

With many fans still disappointed that County have failed to notch up their first win of the season, Thompson is somewhat philosophical, reflecting on the positives and how far the side has come since he took over more than a year ago.

One huge positive was the goal of new signing Richard Butcher. Thommo prasied the midfielders efforts and post match attitude: "I was pleased for Butch, but he came in afterwards disappointed because he could have scored a hat-trick."

In a complete contrast of fortunes, Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman has no excuses for his teams 3-0 defeat at home to Darlington, knowing his team really must do better.

"I am disappointed. We are capable of competing with clubs like Darlington,
Coleman...Demands more
but we can't defend like that and waste chances," he explained.

Meanwhile, Paul Ince on his return to Moss Rose says he knew his side were never out of the game with Macclesfield despite trailing 3-1, twenty minutes from time.

The Silkmen's collapse was all too familiar to new Dons boss Paul Ince.

"When Leon Knight got us back into the game I knew we had a chance because they've got that tendency to concecde," he said.

And finally, Chester City manager Bobby Williamson has admitted his side were a little lucky to snatch a 2-1 win over Rochdale at Spotland.

The Blues came from behind to steal all three points in a tight affair.

Williamson confessed: "It was a great three points us, but to be honest it was a steal."
