Thommo enlists Austin's powers

Whilst the predictable ‘Boston-reject' jibes are beginning to ring around the various internet forums and, particularly, Boston United web-sites, few Magpies fans will care much for such sneers, with Steve Thompson's preparations picking up further pace today having captured a man proven at this level.

McCann: Distinguished
Scottish-born McCann, who started his career with Wolves, has had a distinguished career north of the border with Airdrie, Hearts and Clyde. At just 26, however, McCann still has much to offer his new club, having made over 80 appearances in his two seasons with Boston prior to agreeing to join the Magpies late this afternoon.

Like Alan White, McCann was unable to agree to a new deal at York Street, and has thus agreed to join his former Pilgrim's team-mate at Meadow Lane next season.

Austin is the latest player to agree to join us, and naturally I am very pleased,” said Thompson, speaking shortly after having secured the Scotsmen's services.

"He is experienced and has a good knowledge of this Division. He has played with a few of our boys already, and with his ability I am sure he will do a good job for us.

"Austin is left-back who has been with Boston and is a player I know plenty about. I've seen him a lot and I like him and what he will bring to the team.”

Thompson has, however, promised that the signings will not stop at McCann, with two midfielders, another striker and an understudy for ‘keeper Kevin Pilkington all very much on the cards for the recently-appointed Notts boss.

"Things are beginning to come together and the squad is taking shape but we have a few more positions to fill.”

Naturally, be sure to check back to NCM for news upon the said signings over the coming weeks.
