The right Guy for Notts?

Last updated : 03 January 2008 By Paul Smith
The 20-year-old has been the subject of a rumoured loan move to Meadow Lane now the January Transfer Window has opened.

With Notts badly needing goals, it is a certainty a striker will be added to the ranks, but is the U's youngster a likely addition?

U's writer Jon Waldron has his doubts at this stage as to whether Layer Road boss Geraint Williams would allow his fourth choice striker to depart just yet, at least until another striker is brought in.

"It's the first I've heard of it and to be honest I'd have thought it would depend on Geraint bringing somebody else in," he said.

"He is fourth in the pecking order at the moment behind Teddy Sheringham, Kevin Lisbie and Clive Platt and he hasn't started yet this season or scored.

"It was said he'd be going out on loan at the start of the season but Geraint said that he didn't want him to and that he wanted him in his squad.

"If another striker is lined up then maybe it will happen, but at the moment I think it is unlikely to happen.

"I have heard a few things that Colchester are looking at a couple of strikers."

So what sort of player is he?

"He's a hustle and bustle type striker and always gives 100%," Waldron added.

"He has been at Colchester for a few years and grown up there and was offered professional terms so I'd imagine they'd be sad to see him go.

"He will run at defenders but maybe he is a bit naive with his shooting at the moment and you would possibly doubt whether he'd score in a one-on-one situation.

"I think he'd do well in the lower leagues because he is unproven at Championship level because he hasn't had the starts."

Dagenham-born Guy has been out on loan twice before, after making his breakthrough under Phil Parkinson three seasons ago.

He made 12 appearances at Cambridge United, scoring twice, in the 2005/06 season, and made one substitute appearance at Gravesend in the same campaign.

This season he has appeared nine times - all of which were from the bench - but he did sign a new three year contract in the summer.
