The Race to survival

Last updated : 29 February 2008 By Gary Moss
League Two is brewing up both a fine title and relegation dual.

Just four points seperate the top four sides, while four teams at the bottom are within six points of falling into the relegation zone.

As the season progresses, teams write themselves out of certain scripts as numbers wittle down to title and relegation contenders.

Rotherham waved goodbye to their championship aspirations in February with just one win in six over the course of the month.

While at the other end, Lincoln City and Dagenham produced runs which could just save their bacon at the bottom.

March is upon us and certain sides fates are again on the line.

Who will move themselves away from danger?

and...

Who will wilt under the pressure at the top?

You won't miss a trick here on NCM...

Game of the day: Wrexham v Mansfield

Little... A big game
Defeat here for is an unbearable thought for Wrexham in this game.

Brian Little's Red Dragons are rock bottom of the League Two pack as they take on second bottom Mansfield Town on Saturday.

The Welshmen are six points shy of safety and a defeat here against their nearest relegation fighters will see them surely have one foot into the Blue Square Premier.

Wrexham have sunk into a rut of late without a goal in their last three outings.

Peterborough inflicted a 2-0 defeat over the basement boys in midweek and this has prompted boss Little into re-think mode.

The former Aston Villa chief says it is time for the Dragons to go all out attack in their pursuit of safety.

Little has used a 5-4-1 system of late but may consider a formation change for the Stags visit with a win vital to their survival programme.

Danny Sonner has been the form man for Wrexham of late pulling the strings in the midfield and adding steel to the Welshmen's big battle. His influence could be a vital factor in this game.

Billy Dearden's men on the other hand have shown some promise of escaping the drop zone - this relegation six-pointer may be exactly what they

need to fulfill their survival hopes.

The Stags have hardly been short of goals with Michael Boulding reeping all the plaudits for his 19 goal haul already this season.

Jefferson Louis has been added to the mix and has also been in the goals. It is at the back where Town have allowed themselves to slip into trouble.

Skipper Jake Buxton will need to bring in some more commanding displays as we approach business time at the bottom.

The Stags however will be boosted by the loan extension of Hull City midfielder Will Atkinson.

The 19-year-old wide man has been a hit with Town since arriving from the Championship outfit.

NCM Prediction: Stags win as the Dragons stare the drop in the face

Elsewhere...

Keith Alexander will be keen to begin his spell at Moss Rose with the visit of Notts County on the horizon.

It has been a quick turnaround at Macc of late with Big Keith likely to bring the fight out of the Silkmen for the promised end of season survival scrap.

The Magpies contine to slip further towards trouble while boss Ian McParland bids to make it back-to-back away wins.

Still... His Daggers side in great form
Morecambe prepare to take on Grimsby for the second of a three game trilogy.

The Mariners got one over on the Shrimps with a 1-0 win in the first leg of the JPT semi-final in midweek.

The sides meet in the league tomorrow before concluding their cup tie again on Tuesday.

Dagenham and Redbridge will be bidding for a remarkable fifth straight win as they hit the road to Bradford.

John Still has restored hope of making through their first season in the league with a run of four straight wins.

A win here could move the Daggers as far as 11 points above the League Two trap door.
