The end of an era

Last updated : 24 December 2004 By Richard Brown

Almost a month after the ‘relieving of duties’ of the former Forest, Notts and Leicester player, the club today announced that the employment of Mills had been terminated after Mills, completely on his own part, agreed to part company with the club he joined as manager in January of this year.

Gary Mills
Mills, who was forced to step-down as first team manager before being offered a lesser role in the organisation of youth team – which he turned down, came to the club with fresh ambitions and promise following an era of doom and gloom of administration.

Although Mills [pictured], with only the best intentions of only the club at heart, fell flat on his face when his promise to ‘bring back the glory days’ caught up with him and, after just eleven months and forty games in charge, his tenure came to an abrupt end.

If Mills’ promises of glory and splendour had paid off, then Notts County would be a lower league force to be reckoned with. Although, not for want of trying, Mills simply lacked the proficiency that was needed to pull off such a momentous deed and soon became the dupe of his own tireless, yet highly contagious, ambitious guise.

Now NCM, besides thanking Mills for not making a commotion over his removal from office, can only thank Mills – admittedly a character we were quick to scrutinise in times of adversity – for his tireless efforts as a member of the family Notts County. Having both members of the NCM team having met the man himself, he will be remembered as diligent patron of drive and passion, and an all round nice guy.

NCM would like to take this opportunity to wish Mills well in his future endeavours.

As far as Notts County of present is concerned, yet another new era is born…
