Sutton on his way

It is often the case that when new managers come in, they’re likely to bring in every man and his dog who he feels most comfortable working with behind him. However, it usually takes a little longer for them to follow out the door on the outgoing.

Little over a month ago, the Notts County board saw it fit to terminate the employment of Gary Mills, before, days later, Darren Gee – Mills’ loyal lap dog of an assistant followed.

Today, just a month later than our managerial exodus, the club released another hugely informative statement declaring ‘the club have terminated his (Sutton's) contract with immediate effect’.

The former Forest ‘keeper [pictured]– a favourite certainly of Brian Clough during his time across the river – had previous spells with the club under Sam Allardyce, but agreed to join Leeds United before rejoining the Magpies for his second spell here during the summer.

Sutton had been working closely with Saul Deeney, Wayne Henderson and, until his transfer, Steve Mildenhall as goalkeeping coach at the ‘Lane. The products of his work have been evident in the sudden rise of Saul Deeney, whose rise in form as of late has drawn praise from many quarters.

Sutton’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

NCM thank Steve for his efforts as a valuable, yet fairly uncredited, member of the set-up here.
