Summer clearout begins

Five gone: McParland has told some of his players that they will not be returning to the club after the summer.
Ian McParland has wielded his axe ahead of the final game of the season, revealing that five players are to be shown the door.

Jamie Forrester, Richard Butcher, Adam Nowland , Gavin Strachan and Adam Tann will not be returning after the summer break.

This will make room for Notts' boss to bring in some fresh faces ready for the new season, in which promotion is the target.

Speaking about the decision to the club's official site, McParland said: "It's not always a good thing to make wholesale changes because stability within a football club is something you always strive for.

"But there's no hiding from the fact that we have done nowhere near as well this season as we would have liked and we need to re-organise the playing staff.

"For one reason or another, none of the players being released have been regulars in the team this season and that has certainly influenced my thinking."

He added: "Dave Kevan and I have been working for months on drawing up a list of targets. We have a very good idea of the people we would like to bring in, and the challenge now is to get them to join us."

Decisions are still to be made on both Stephen Hunt and Ben Fairclough, while Myles Weston has a contract offer on the table.

Should they sign new deals the squad will consist of the following players:

Goalkeepers: Russell Hoult, Kevin Pilkington

Defenders: Michael Edwards, John Thompson, Jamie Clapham, Stephen Hunt

Midfielders: Matthew Hamshaw, Myles Weston,

Strikers: Delroy Facey, Sean Canham, Ben Fairclough
