The 32-year old shot-stopper was told today that his future lies elsewhere by his manager due to ‘financial reasons’ as the club prepares for a major cull over the summer months leaving another eleven besides Garden sweat over their futures, Mills has clearly got a not-so shortlist of his arrivals and departures.
Garden, one of three senior goalkeepers at the club, was made an obvious candidate for the chop firstly, due to his deal expiring at the end of the current campaign and, secondly, due to his age which hardly makes for an extensive future now that he’s the wrong side of thirty.
Mills justified his decision in an interview with the Nottingham Evening Post by saying: ‘In the situation we are in, we cannot justify having three goalkeepers on the wage bill.'
'We have two under contract next season and Stuart's deal ran out.'
‘Given this, it may be that, if the right player becomes available in the future, we do end up taking on another keeper but this is the decision we have to make now.’
But the aptly named ‘Flying Scotsman’ will, undoubtedly, feel hard done by none-the-less.
