Steady Eddy picks up serious injury

Former Grimsby player Edwards picked up the nasty-looking knee injury in the 52nd minute of last night's Carling Cup clash at Upton Park, and had to be stretchered off.

Edwards: Faces spell on sidelines
The reliable defender came off worst in a robust midfield challenge, and, although it is not yet known the exact seriousness of the injury, Notts boss Gary Mills fears the worst.

The Notts manager said in the post-game press conference, which he decided to go to for a change:

" Mike Edwards has a bad knee injury, and it's not looking too clever. However, we do don't yet know the full extent of the injury.

"We are hoping it's not too bad, but the word from the physio is that it could be."

Edwards, after a slow start, has been one of the more impressive performers of late after his summer switch from the Mariners. Nicknamed 'Steady Eddy', his influence will be sorely missed.
