Sour grapes from Palmer

Palmer's side now lie in a lowly 18th position in the League Two table, winning just once in six attempts so far in the season.

However, Palmer used his post-match interview more to address his opponents style of play rather than pin-pointing his own team's failings.

The Mansfield boss - who became a cult figure amongst Notts fans last season for publicly sacking one of his players after seemingly every match - branded Notts a long ball team.

"Notts County's style is not one I am fond of, I don't like playing that way," he moaned to BBC Radio Nottingham after the game.

"It was effective for them though, they played the long ball game and every time balls bounced around the pitch they hooked it on.

"That is their choice if they wish to play in that particular manner.

"They play in the same way as Bolton Wanderers do, but I have to say Bolton have a bit more quality," concluded the Mansfield manager.

After delivering the revelation that a side lying comfortably in the top half of the Premiership possess more quality than the Magpies, who currently sit 17 places above Palmer's outfit, Notts County boss Gudjon Thordarson was happy to deliver the perfect response to his counterpart, further cementing his popularity amongst the Notts faithful.

"If he thinks we are a poor side, he should take a look into his own side," Thordarson told the Notts official website.

"We beat them, but we should have beat them more comfortably. The outcome of the game should have been 6-2 to us, and that tells you all about Carlton Palmer's team.

"I always thought it was better for a Manager to concentrate on his own team anyway."

The verbal bout between the two managers adds more spice ahead of the team's next fixture on March 4th. Assuming Palmer's still in a job by then, ofcourse.
