Slade plays-down Hackworth move

Slade - who took the former Notts and Leeds striker on-loan during the 2003/04 season at his former haunt, Scarborough - was reportedly set to be fighting off much competition for the striker's signature following the termination of his Meadow Lane contract. But after yesterday's revealation, the likelihood of Hackworth signing in the very near future looks somewhat doubtful with Slade scotching talk of negotiations already having opened between the two parties.

Hackworth, released last month by Gary Mills, is now looking for a new club, one likely to be in the Coca Cola League Two, formerly Nationwide Division Three, which means that we havn't seen the last of 'Hackers'.

"I know there have been rumours about Tony Hackworth because I had him on loan at Scarborough, but other players are my priority at the moment," he said. "Remember, there are the players who were here last year too - I need to speak to them about their situation"

"Nothing has been agreed with anyone yet, but there could be some news early next week."
