Shrews New start at the Meadow

Last updated : 06 March 2008 By Gary Moss
It has been another week of upheaval in League Two with another two bosses cast with the sack as they slip further to trouble.

Chester City's Bobby Williamson was axed after a run of just one win in 14 outings saw the the Blues slide into the relegation fold.

Stranded on 40 points, City are still ten adrift of the elusive safety mark of 50 points.

I am glad to see the bold move have an impact with an immediate 1-0 loss Darlington in midweek.

Shrewsbury Town likewise dispensed of terrace favourite Gary Peters following a concerning run of seven games without a victory.

Peters was the man of the moment last season after guding the Shrews to the play-off final and into their renovated stadium, New Meadow.

All season Town have gone quietly about the business just a small run away from the play-offs.

But a dismal spell has plunged them into 16th and like Chester still ten points from the talked about safety mark.

Either sides will be hoping a honeymoon period is enough to see them retain their Football League status.

This weekend will prove a testing one for both sides as they bid to rediscover their feet and claw together the last few points to secure their safety.

Game of the day: Shrewsbury v Rotherham

All the attention has been surrounding the battle for the title and the scrap at the bottom while this weekend's game of the day comes from New Meadow where two sides who look to be finishing the season on a sour note come

together.

Shrewsbury Town who have sunk to 16th after a run of seven without a win host Rotherham United are in dnager of waving goodbye to their play-off place manging just one win in their last eight outings.

Both sides hold realistic hopes of a life out of League Two but of late have seen them fade.

Managerless Shrewsbury begin the weekend a massive 16 points adrift of the top seven with relegation fear now a bigger concern to them.

Managing Director Rob Bickerton insists the Shrews are in no rush to find a new boss although I am not quite sure that is a feeling the fans will go along with.

The terrace folk will want the right man although a lack of direction could spell more trouble.

The Millers on the other hand despite still sitting pretty in fifth have completely flunked out of automatic promotion contention
Richardson...Spirites ready to pounce
and now need to muster a dramatic turn around just to keep hold of their play-off spot.

The likes of Lee Richardson's Chesterfield and Alan Buckley's Grimby are in hot pursuit of bursting into the play-offs while United's sluggish spell could open up a gap in the top seven.

NCM Prediction: Draw

Elsewhere...

Chester City begin life without Bobby Williamson hosting bottom side Wrexham at the Deva on Sunday.

The Blues are in need of a boost as they slip further into the mire.

The MK Dons finally look like they have a title race on their hands after the resurgence of Peterborough of late.

Paul Ince takes his men to Blundell Park to take on a Grimsby outfit still

chasing a play-off spot.

The Mariners will be hoping to banish memories of their last legaue home game when they were trounced 4-1 against Dagenham.

Their safe passge to the JPT final in midweek should lift spirits.

Mansfield are shunting closer to bursting out of the drop zone and could do so at home to Rochdale this weekend.

The Stags have suffered just one defeat in their last four - but need to pull out all the stops to make the psychological step from the divisions bottom two.
