Scully and Williams told to leave

The pair, both absent from Saturday’s trip to Torquay, have been relying very much upon borrowed time since Gary Mills was sacked as Magpies boss way back in November 2004, with a lack of competition for places, more  than anything else, keeping them in the first team frame.

Since Mills parted company with the club, the duo have been in somewhat hot-and-cold form for the Magpies, continuously finding themselves in and out of the side under Ian Richardson’s management.

However, with the more experienced figure of Gudjon Thordarson at the helm, the ‘favours for a friend’ policy has been well and truly scrapped, with the Iceman insisting players either put up, or shut up shop.

Williams and Scully, apparently, have chosen the former of the two options of the two.

The pair both joined the Magpies mid-way through the club’s relegation season of 2004, with Williams signing on a free transfer from Manchester United, whilst Scully joined on a short-term contract.

The two-some have featured 39 times in the league between them but have failed to hold-down a regular place in Gudjon’s plans over the pre-season.

With both players’ contracts up at the end of the current season, Thordarson is keen to get rid prior to the August 31st transfer window slamming shut on the former Icelandic national coach.

Should wide-man Scully, 29, find a new club, his CV will ‘boast’ an incredible fourteen clubs in separate spells, whilst  forward Williams, 22, should list but three.

Alfreton, anyone?
