Scoffham set for first team comeback?

The striker played his first full 90 minutes since returning from a 10 month spell on the sidelines during the reserves' 1-0 defeat at York City last night.

And he is again set to be included as the Notts second-string take part in their second game of the week tomorrow, this time at Halifax Town.

Should the 21-year-old come through that unscathed, he is likely to find himself in the first team squad for the first time since May 2004.

"If he comes through the game again tomorrow he will be included on Saturday," Richardson told the NEP.

"It is not usual to have two reserve games in the space of a week. But, in this case, it is for good reason.

If he can play in both these matches and prove his fitness, he will be involved on Saturday.

"Whether we start with him or have him on the bench, I don't know. But just having him back in the squad will be like making a new signing.

"He has been out of the side for too long. Having him back will be great."

The former Gedling Town hitman was far more involved last night then his original comeback game, a 1-1 draw for the reserves against Grimsby. Despite this, he did still, understandably, show signs of rustiness in front of goal.

It is for this reason that it is something of a surprise that Richardson has no qualms of putting the forward back in first-team action for Saturday's game against Bristol, but it should certainly help with the attendance - which was expected to be one of the lowest in recent times.

The whole-hearted youngster signed for The Magpies in February last year and netted twice in fifteen appearences, before breaking his leg on the final day of the season.
