Scoffham On Trial

Last updated : 04 February 2004 By Joanna Walker
Notts County have today announced the arrival of yet another trialist in the name of Steve Scoffham. The striker is at Meadow Lane on a week's trial from Northern Counties East League side Gedling Town.

Scoffham who is only 21, has scored 17 goals so far this season for
Gedling Town and after completing his first training session today with Notts, he looks set to appear in the reserve game scheduled for tomorrow at Meadow Lane against Hartlepool reserves.

Mills told the Nottingham Evening Post: “We have only had one session with Steve up to now. So it is a bit early to make a judgement.”

“But he has done well in training. We will have a look at how he does in the reserves' match tomorrow, and then perhaps take things from there.”

Mills promised when he took over that he would scour the non-league football scene for talented players to bring to County and it looks as though he is keeping to his word.
The most positive outcome of bringing non-league players to league clubs is that they don’t cost much money in wages and have no fee involved and with the current financial constraints it looks to be working well, with Gary Mills concluding;

“I am keen to keep a look out for good players locally."

“I'm sure there are players out there in non-league football who are waiting to be discovered.”

“There are two or three we have our eye on at the moment.”

So, who knows Steve Scoffham might not be the last trialist to be given a chance at
Meadow Lane and as usual we will of course keep you up to date here on NCM of any other new faces at Notts.
