Scoff injury boost

Scoffham was the victim of a horror challenge by Cobblers captain Sean Dyche in the 48th minute of Saturday's clash that earned the Northampton defender a deserved red card.

The striker left the field on a stretcher with his leg in a splint and it had been feared that injury-plagued Scoffham had suffered a broken leg for the third time in his two-year Magpies career.

But the initial diagnosis from Meadow Lane is set to reveal that the 22-year-old has only suffered heavy bruising to his left shin and slight ligament damage.

The news should mean Scoffham will return before the end of the season.

The workhorse marksman has had little luck since signing for the Magpies from local non-league outfit Gedling Town in February 2004.

After initially sustaining a break to his right leg three months after his arrival, Scoffham re-fractured the same leg just as a first team comeback had looked on the cards.

This campaign, the forward has suffered a broken cheekbone that left him sidelined for two months, plus a host of various niggles that has halted his progress.
