Richo set for double transfer swoop

Richardson has made an approach to bring in a Premiership defender and a Championship winger on a temporary basis to boost his extremely-thin squad.

Richardson: Looking for fresh blood
The Notts boss has come in for his first real criticism since taking the job this week, after negative tactics cost the Magpies dear on Saturday - going down 1-0 at home to local rivals Mansfield.

But the 34-year-old is looking to bounce back, by adding to his squad before the weekend.

"We do need to add new faces to the squad," Richardson told the NEP.

"There is no question that we are looking a little thin.

"Everyone who was fit was in the squad on Saturday and I am hopeful of making new signings. We are in talks with two different clubs.

"Hopefully things will come together before the weekend.

"We do have to keep a tight budget, but we are trying to work around that."

The tough tackling defender - who was given the manager's chair until the end of the season just under a month ago - has also revealed that he has made an approach to bring back Magpies legend Tommy Johnson - currently without a club - back to the place where he began his professional career.

Since taking over the reigns in November Richardson has brought in just one outfield player, that being the re-signing of the popular Mark Stallard on Friday.

His only other moves in the transfer market have been loan moves for goalkeepers Wayne Henderson and Rob Elliot.

The Magpies are badly in need of re-inforcements, particularly in defence where three of the clubs four senior centre backs are currently carrying injuries.
