Richo in transfer hunt

Richardson hopes to sign the pair of un-named targets ahead of this Thursday's transfer deadline day.

The Magpies boss is under real pressure for the first time, after demoralising defeats to footballing superpowers Kidderminster Harriers, Boston Utd and Chester City within the space of a week saw his side concede 10 goals.

A deal to take a wideman on-loan is already believed to have been agreed, but the move has to be given the thumbs-up from the Notts board before it can be pushed through.

A defender, meanwhile, is a priority largely due to the above stat. Richo has been without all his four senior centre backs due to injuries' for much of the past month.

"I have spoken to a manager about a winger and he has said that we can have him on loan if want him," the gaffer told the NEP.

"I am just waiting for permission to complete the deal from the board. It is a question of whether we have the money to do it or not.

"Also, after Saturday's performance, I want to bring in a defender as well. I think we need it.

"I do have players in mind. Hopefully something can be done before Thursday."

Richardson himself has been one of the centre-backs sat on the sidelines, and he is going for exploratory surgery on Thursday in the hope to find the cause of the problem.

Whatever his recent managerial woes, there's no doubt Notts fans would love nothing more then seeing Richardson lining-up at the heart of the defence after recent troubles.

Meanwhile, Magpies midfielder Matty Gill (pictured left) has revealed that he contemplated retirement after being on the wrong end of some abuse from his own supporters during a 5-1 hammering at Rushden back in November.

The 25-year-old has improved his game since the appointment of Richardson shortly after the game, and admitted that it is largely due to his manager's - and assistant John Gaunt's - support.

"I owe them so much; if not for them I might have retired. It did cross my mind after the Rushden game. I felt that low after what happened," the midfielder said in an interview with the Evening Post.
