Richo in line for Burton move?

Just days after Gudjon Thordarson ended his Magpies residency, 34-year old defender Ian Richardson (pictured) has already caught the attention of another club, albeit one outside of the Football League.

After spending ten years with County, making over 300 league appearances for the Magpies, reports from the Derby Evening Telegraph confirm that Burton Albion manager, Nigel Clough has made a proposal to the veteran, who he believes to ‘fit the bill’ for the highly-rated Burton boss’ Conference National side.

Burton currently lie 20th in the Conference table, having conceded nine goals in just five games, and Clough now sees Richardson has the ideal solution to his defensive shortcomings.

"Ian would fit the bill for us," said Clough, speaking to the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"We have made him an offer but he has asked for the weekend to mull it over.

"I would think he would like to stay in the Football League if he had the chance but we will have to see."

Despite being offered a testimonial game by the club, Richardson is still believed to be taking legal action against the club he served, treasured and managed for almost a decade.
