Relegation fodder?

A poll set up by NCM following Saturday's disastrous FA Cup defeat to Blue Square South minnows Havant and Waterlooville has revealed that the fans think Notts will only just avoid relegation.

Fifty-five people voted, with a huge 40% believing Charlie McParland's men will only just avoid the drop into non-league for what would be the first time in the clubs long history.

What makes it even more incredible was that suring pre-season then manager Steve Thompson, and then chairman Jeff Moore stated that the playoffs were the target.

With the likes of so-called star names such as Neil MacKenzie, Hector Sam and Spencer Weir-Daley arriving, Notts seemed to have brought together their best squad in years.
McParland... Will he steer club from safety?

But following Saturday's heartbreak and back-to-back league defeats to fellow strugglers Macclesfield Town and Lincoln City before that, Notts have also slipped to 19th in the table, and fans believe that is there or thereabouts where they will stay.

Next was 23% of the votes going to Notts finishing within safety fairly comfortably betweetn 18th and 11th positions.

A fairly huge - given pre-season expectations - 21% believe Notts will get relegated.

Optimism is clearly waning with only 7% sensing a top ten finish.

There are still fans clinging on to hope though with two people a piece voting for a playoff place and an automatic promotion finish.

Notts host in-form Peterborough United at Meadow Lane tonight.
