Quinn sets sights on debut win

Notts County will face Saturday's visitors, AFC Bournemouth at arguably the worst time possible.

Demanding: Quinn wants more from his new team...
Despite the Cherries not starting the campaign in the way they would have liked - taking just two points from their first four games - things could be looking up for them.

As many teams do, Bournemouth reacted to the sacking of their manager, Kevin Bond, by winning - hammering League One's Bristol Rovers 3-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.

Since the victory, ex-Cambridge united boss, Jimmy Quinn has taken over the reins, alongside his assistant, Jason Tindall, and the players will be out to prove their worth.

With a new board and now manager, the club is able to move on from the heartaches of the torrid time in administration, and hope for an improvement on the pitch, as well as off it.

Quinn aims to hit the ground running, starting with a result this weekend against the Magpies.

Speaking to the Bournemouth Evening Echo, he spoke with confidence and demanded more from his squad.

"I've got a reputation for going into clubs when they've been struggling and although this is going to be a tough job, I'm confident I can do my bit and keep them in League Two," he declared.

"The past three jobs I've taken on, the clubs have been rock bottom and I've got them back.

"I've got the team working hard for each another and showing passion and commitment.

"They need to make sure they are playing with enthusiasm and giving the fans something to shout about. I haven't seen that of late.

"It's always disappointing when you see a team not fulfilling its potential. We've got some good players here and I'm quite confident I can turn it around."

Quinn, a former striker for Bournemouth, will have a tough job turning around a club currently amidst a downward plight - not helped by the 17 point deduction suffered before a ball had even been kicked.

County can relate to this, following more than a decade of struggle, and are

Under pressure: McParland is desperate for his side's first league win...
fighting just as hard to reverse their fortunes for the better.

Although Notts have produced some attractive play so far, they have yet to find the winning formula in the league.

Just like the Cherries, Notts are desperate to clinch a first league win to really get the season underway.

So far in League Two, County have notched up three consecutive draws, preceded by a 2-1 defeat away at Bradford City.

The visitors have managed just two draws against Gillingham and Aldershot Town, followed by two losses to Exeter City and Port Vale, leaving them on minus-15 points.

In previous encounters between the two sides, Bournemouth edge it - winning 24 of the 54 matches played. Notts have won 19 and the remaining 10 were drawn.

The last time Notts competed against Bournemouth was in the 2003/2004 campaign in League One, where the Cherries managed to scoop a double, with a set of 1-0 wins.

This time around it looks to be closer with both sides in a similar vein of form.

In the Magpies' favour is their tremendous home form of late, which sees them undefeated since the mid-week loss to Lincoln City back in March.

With a newly appointed Boss, the expectations of the visitors will have increased, but it is up to Ian McParland and his team to ruin Quinn's welcoming party, and continue to turn Meadow Lane into a fortress.
