Preview - Crewe Alexandra V Notts County

Last updated : 13 August 2002 By Notts County Mad

The Magpies have a squad of 19 players and all appear to have come through the draw against Wycombe unscathed.

Dearden had hoped to bring in Simon Ramsden from Sunderland and former Bristol Rovers defender Steve Foster before the Wanderers clash, but was denied the chance because of a transfer embargo. Foster has now signed for Doncaster Rovers so he is out of the question to sign for Notts.

Crewe striker Rodney Jack has been ruled out for two weeks after he suffered a recurrence of a calf injury in training.

The striker was a late withdrawal from the Alex squad that travelled to Northampton and will now definitely miss the first home game of the season against Notts.

Efe Sodje took a kick in his face which required stitches in the draw against Northampton , but is expected to play.

Wayne Collins is unlikely to return as he continues to struggle with a hamstring problem.

Major Punts Preview...

Notts County travel to take on Crewe Alexandra at Alexandra Stadium on Tuesday evening, needing to turn around their fortunes at the ground. The Magpies will be hoping to improve upon a record which has seen them ending up on the losing side in more than half of the games played between the two.

The last time the two teams met at Crewe was back in December 1996, over five years ago, with Crewe running out comfortable 3-0 winners in a League Division Two match.
