Possible Extension For Scully

Tony Scully’s recent performances have been enough to convince manager Gary Mills that he is a player worthy of a new contract, but warned Scully he has to stay consistent in order to receive a further deal at Meadow Lane.

Mills is wary of handing him a long term contract, in fear that Scully will become complacent, instead it is expected that he will be offered a month-to-month extension as a way of keeping him motivated and focused when his current deal runs out at the end of the season.

“I think he might be the kind of player who will benefit from that.”

“Perhaps he needs to be kept on his toes. What we don't want is to give him a longer contract and for him to get into the comfort zone.” Mills told the Nottingham Evening Post.

Scully: A New Contract Could Be On The Cards For The Former QPR Man
Scully, who was by far the most impressive player on the pitch in last Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing at Tranmere has impressed Mills with his contributions to the team and his positive attitude which showed greatly in the game at Prenton Park.

"Tony was outstanding at the weekend," said Mills.

"Some of his crossing wasn't the best, but he repeatedly got himself into good positions and was positive in his play.

He had the Tranmere defence on the back foot all the time. He is in a position where he is making me think about the longer term with him.

And, if he can keep up his performance levels to what they were at the weekend, he will get an opportunity."

"But as long as he can maintain his current form, he is a player who will be in our plans."

The 27 year old winger who has featured in eight matches and scored twice – at Brentford and Rushden & Diamonds since his arrival at Meadow Lane back in January – knows he has to work hard between now and the end of the season in order to impress Mills enough to gain a new contract.

“My goal is to try to prove myself so I can get a longer deal at the club,” said Tony Scully in the Nottingham Evening Post.

“The manager has given me a chance to do that and I will take it.”

I would like to see Tony Scully earn a new contract at Meadow Lane as I believe he is a vital part of the team. His performance at Nene Park a few weeks back highlighted how he can change a game when Mills threw him into action for the second half against Rushden & Diamonds, where he offered creativity on the left wing and obviously he went on to score (in vain).
I can see Tony Scully scoring a few more goals himself before the end of the season, or at least setting up a few goals between now and the end of the season.

So, come on Tony, continue to show us those spectacular crosses and get yourself a new contract.
