Players keen to stay postive

Notts have plunged down to 15th position in League Two, despite topping the table at the end of August. The Magpies have not been able to win a competitive fixture since the 3-2 Derby day win over Mansfield Town back on August 29th.

However, the Magpies' squad are keen to remain positive, citing Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Carlisle as proof that their spell of poor form is coming to an end.

Gudjon Thordarson's side were unable to break-down the stubborn visitors, but their performance showed signs of improvement on recent dour displays.

Hurst: Upbeat
"There is no doubt on Saturday against Carlisle we should have won the game," said top-scorer Glynn Hurst to the official website today.

"We had the chances to do so but I am sure in time it will all come together.

"But after what has happened in the past few weeks I think it is a step forward for us.

"We are creating chances and that is the most important thing. I think with Saturday's performance and the chances we are creating, we can go into Saturday's game at Bury with lots of confidence."

It's not just Hurst who's confident, either. There's a genuine belief inside the Meadow Lane camp that the tide is turning, and that the slide down the table will be halted at the weekend.

"I thought we deserved all three points on Saturday," said club captain Rob Ullathorne, also talking to the official website.

"We can't seem to score goals. I felt against Carlisle that we dominated play but just couldn't seem to stick the ball away.

"We haven't got the results nor have we played well but we did well on Saturday and we hope that is the turning point."

The Magpies also received good news today in the form of Steve Scoffham, who resumed full training after twisting a knee during Saturday's draw.

Thordarson still has injury doubts over Dan Martin (rib) and David Pipe (groin) ahead of Saturday's trip to Gigg Lane.

Meanwhile, Notts' second-string were soundly beaten 4-0 by neighbours Nottingham Forest in a friendly played on Tuesday afternoon. The Magpies fielded a largely inexperienced side, but did contain first-teamers Brian O'Callaghan and Gavin Gordon amongst their ranks.
