Pipe set for contract talks

Last updated : 13 April 2004 By Richard Brown

Mills has been very open in his desires to bring the highly-rated Pipe to Meadow Lane on a permanent basis after a hugely successful three-month loan spell with the club – although, in the short term, Mills is happy to try to allow Pipe to play the remaining four games of the Magpies’ relegation battle.

Pipe has openly admitted also to the Nottingham Evening Post, that finance is not the sole factor in deciding on a move to the ‘Lane as he confessed that a move down the Football League hierarchy to the Third Division would be a huge decision to make in his young career.

But with the drop now ominous, doubts have been raised over the Meadow Lane future of the Cardiff-born prodigy.

"Yesterday may not have been the last game I play for the club. I hope that it wasn't anyway," he told the Evening Post’s Paul Taylor.

"
I am meeting the manager today and the club are going to put everything on the table, in terms of what they are offering me.

"
I don't think it will be decided today but it has to be done before Friday, so there is not long to sort it out.

"
There are a number of issues to think about, not just the financial side of things. I do have another year on my contract at Coventry and I don't know what Notts will be able to offer me."

"There is also the fact that Notts may be in the Third Division next season - although I don't believe that is decided yet."

And the club will be keen to retain the services of the versatile 20 year-old.

"I think it is clear to people how I have enjoyed it, by the manner in which I have played," he said. "I think I have given my all to the club."

We never really got going [vs. Wednesday] and the game was all but over in the first 20 minutes. That result hurt us."

NCM will keep you up to date on the Pipe saga and we hope to bring the news that Pipe has signed on a permanent basis as soon as it happens.
