Pilkington set to sign?

Pilkington has spent the last five years at Field Mill but, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the month, the stopper opted to refuse the offer of a new two-year deal on reduced terms.

Meadow Lane-bound?
And talk is rife that the 31-year-old is set to sign for the Magpies.

The goalkeeper captained the Stags during their playoff campaign in 03/04 - but, like many, has become disilussioned with life at Field Mill since Carlton Palmer took over in November.

The former Man Utd player - who learnt his trade playing understudy to Peter Schmeichel in the mid 90s - has also been linked with League One side Blackpool, but the lure of staying local has believed to have persuaded Pilkington to become Thordarson's first signing as Notts County boss.

The move would also confirm an end to Saul Deeney's Meadow Lane career, with the soon-to-be out of contract young Irishman believed to have agreed terms at Sheffield United.

It's not been all bad news for Palmer and Mansfield today though, with the Stags signing experienced former Wycombe full-back Gus Uhlenbeek and released Arsenal forward Adam Birchall on free transfers.
