The club’s owners, Blenheim 1862 were taken to an employment yesterday over the ongoing dispute of ex-physio, Roger Cleary’s dismissal. Following his dismissal in January, the case resurfaced in the close season with Cleary threatening legal action against his former employers, with Cleary hoping to fight-out more than £40,000 in damages.

However, Cleary won the case, claiming £8,512 in compensation and a further basic award of £1,300 – clearly some way short of the £41,000 Cleary was willing to claim. The tribunal dismissed another claim by Mr Cleary for breach of contract.

Speaking after the tribunal yesterday, Notts County club director Steve Thompson said the case had been "totally unnecessary".

"We are bitterly disappointed that this matter had to come to tribunal. Mr Cleary's claim originates from nothing more than a misunderstanding over the terms of his resignation."

"We are very sorry that everyone's time has been wasted over something that could have been settled, without the need to go to court, many weeks ago."

Cleary gave no comment on the case, following yesterday’s hearing. Surprise. Surprise.
