PFA League 2 Team of the Year

In a word, no. Could we have expected them to make it? Possibly. The likes of Mike Edwards and Jason Lee have had superb full seasons, but when you notice that all of the players picked are performing for teams who have at least been in the playoff's for virtually the whole season, you can understand why no Magpies men feature.

The two centre halves picked are no better than Edwards, nor have they, individually, had a better season than him, but they play for the top two teams who have, collectively, had more media attention and have the two best defensive records.

However, there is no doubt in my mind that had Edwards played for either of those sides, he would have made the Team of the Year.

What I'm getting at is that it is more to do with the team you play for than your individual abilities. Therefore, if this time next year Notts have just one player in, then a successful season would have been had.

Clayton Ince was named as goalkeeper with his Walsall team having the best defensive record in the league.

The back four consisted of fellow Saddlers Craig Pead and Chris Westwood, with Hartlepool's Michael Nelson and Richie Humphreys alongside them.

Frecklington deserved recognition
Into midfield and Wycombe veteran Tommy Doherty was named alongside Lincoln youngster Lee Frecklington in the centre, whilst Hartlepool's Andy Monkhouse and Walsall's Dean Keates occupied the wings.

Up front, Lee missed out to Jermaine Easter and Izale McLeod. Top scorer in the division, Richie Barker, also failed to make it.
