Paul Boertien: Come and Get me!

Last updated : 24 February 2004 By Richard Brown
This fresh hope of signing the former Carlisle man came following the recall of Boertien to Pride Park after impressing the Meadow Lane crowds greatly during his time at the club – whether it be on the right or left side of the back-four - or even whilst deputising in the middle of the park.

Boertien has told Mills to ‘come and get him’ after playing his final game in his initial loan deal and Gary Mills is adamant on trying to bring both Boertien and David Pipe to the club.

Mills told the Nottingham Evening Post today: "Paul said to me immediately after the match on Saturday 'try to get me’, which I think says a lot. I want players like that at the club, people who want to play for Notts County.

If every player had the same enthusiasm and determination as him and Paul Boertien, we would not have a problem. I will be trying to sign both of them permanently."

And although there is no word of an official approach for Boertien or Pipe, Mills still remains optimistic that players of the loanees’ quality – along with Andy Parkinson – could be encouraged to join the ranks at the ‘Lane.

"At the moment Boerts is very disappointed, he wants to play for us. He wants to stay with
Notts County,’ he said. ‘I guess that does tell you something about the spirit we have at the club.

Andy Parkinson was sad to go back to
Sheffield United and David Pipe was more than happy to stay here."
