Boyce said "I'm not sure why I've not played at Scunthorpe this season,
"Last season it was my debut season in League One and I felt like I did a good job. But this season opportunities have been hard to come by - I made one sub appearance and I spent time on loan at Hartlepool too.
"It's not really a tough decision to come out on loan because once I found out I was dead in the water, I just wanted to play football. There was nothing really happening for me during January, but obviously there is the loan window.
Magpies boss Jamie Fullarton said "He (Boyce) brings physicality and he has a hugely strong presence. There was definitely a lot of interest out there, locally and from further afield across the divisions. But I spoke to Andrew and he decided he wanted to come here."
