Now the staff respond

Following a disastrous home week, with two defeats on the trot in front of attendances under and just above the 4,000 mark, the staff have come out fighting as they bid to get back on track. Notts have lost  five home games now this season, and a response is needed, particularly as the performances against Hartlepool United and Macclesfield Town were even worse than the actual results.

Thommo...Upbeat
First to speak out was manager Steve Thompson, speaking in a specially recorded message for Magpie World on the Official Site, he said, “We all know we should have more points than we have got. I don't think the gap between fixtures had anything to do with it.

“We all know the Hartlepool performance was unacceptable and the players admitted it. That was the first game we were not at races not playing to our capabilities.

“Christmas came early for Macclesfield, you can't give anyone a two goal start

“We started with Saul (Deeney) in goal and he should have done better not giving a penalty away.

“All the forwards know they have to be better in that department.

“21 games, 31 points, and we firmly believe we should have at least 6 or 7 points more but we haven't.

“We certainly have to get something out of every game in the next six.

“I came under a cloud, I warned people this would happen where players will lose their consistency. We have no divine right to win any gam and it was never going to be a quick fix.

“The present supporters and board are committed to making it a successful club again and I was told in no uncertain terms that I had a budget to stick to and I'm an experienced manager and we are still not out the woods and the most important thing is we all stick together.

“The one thing I hate is losing football matches, as do my players.

We've had a blip, and got to get out of it.

“We have determined players every player at the club is committed.

“I'm here for three years, and never said it would be one season wonder. It will take players time to settle.

“It's a long season and certain things and certain results will come out of the cupboard.

“It's essential we all realise that we all have the same goal which is to make Notts County successful…Rome wasn't built in a day.

“Myself and John Gannon haven't come here not to be successful.

White... Knows there must be a response

“Certain players are on two year contracts certain are on one year contracts, we have long term plans and everything has to be steady.

“Supporters have got to get behind us as they did against Southampton, Middlesbrough and especially in the 2nd half against Macclesfield, where they were superb

Players are very aware of the support.”

Lawrie Dudfield, Notts' man of the match as an early first half substitute against Macclesfield said told the Official Site, “Quite simply, we cannot let our confidence drop. We've got to push what has happened aside now. As a team, we will take each game as it comes, and we want to get rid of this disappointment. We know we are good enough.”

Captain Alan White told ‘Magpie World', “Three defeats in a row has seen confidence knocked a little bit. We have got to try and bounce back from this. We have got three games ahead now that we think are winnable, we've got to move on now. Football is hard work. A lot of people think its an easy life, we'll work hard this week and that will hopefully be the start of better things to come.”
