Notts take Rodgers to Austria

Notts County flew out to their pre-season training base in Austria this morning, with one unfamiliar face travelling with the squad in the shape of trialist forward Luke Rodgers, who was released by Yeovil Town at the end of the season. Rodgers, who made his name as a free scoring forward at Shrewsbury Town, joined the Glovers from Port Vale last season, but found himself restricted to mainly substitute appearances as he struck three goals at Huish Park before his release.

The squad flew out of Birmingham airport at 8am this morning, and are set to arrive at their training base in Obertraun this afternoon. The tour is intended as an intense training period but also to help with team bonding and squad togetherness ahead of the new season. Although Rodgers has gone, other trialists Dean Bowditch, Chris Sharp and John Irving have not been taken with the squad and no announcement has been made about their future as of yet.

Notts play two friendlies while in Austria, firstly on Monday against Universitatea Craiova of the Romanian top flight, before they travel to Salzburg on Wednesday to face Austrian lower league side SV Austria Salzburg.
