The Manchester City midfielder will remain at Notts for at least another month, with the deal likely to be extended for another month after that and Billy Dearden would like to bring him in permanently if he can.

The Notts boss described Whitley as "vital" to the team this week, and rates the Zambian born Northern Ireland international very highly indeed. And Dearden was clearly delighted to keep Whitley on as he revealed the news last night at the Fans Forum, with just a few loose ends to be tied up the deal will be done over the weekend.

In the 4 league games Whitley has played in since he teamed up with Notts last month, Notts have not lost a game. Draws were picked up against Swindon, Chesterfield and Mansfield, while Notts claimed their only home win so far this season against Northampton Town.

This will come as a big boost to players and supporters alike, especially as Darren Caskey will miss next weeks game against Blackpool because of suspension.
