Notts snap up Graeme Lee

Notts County have today moved to secure the signing of Bradford City defender Graeme Lee on a free transfer. The 31 year-old is an experienced centre half at this level, and has previously won promotion from the fourth tier with Hartlepool United and Doncaster Rovers, but he was unable to repeat that feat last season as Bradford City's promotion challenge fell apart towards the end of the season, meaning Lee was free to leave the club due to a clause in his contract.

The no nonsense defender has penned a two-year deal at Meadow Lane, and will add some much needed strength and solidity into the centre of the Magpies' defence. The Middlesbrough born defender has made over 400 Football League appearances in a lengthy career, which has taken in spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Shrewsbury Town, Hartlepool United, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City.

Ian McParland had already spoken of his desire to bring in a leader at the back, and as a captain of former clubs Lee certainly fits the bill. McParland told nottscountyfc.co.uk of his new signing:-

"Graeme's a leader, a vastly experienced defender at this level, and we're absolutely delighted he has agreed to join us.

"I met with him and his agent last week and they were obviously pleased with what they heard from us because this deal has moved very swiftly."

There was also more good news for County fans, with the announcement that the club are on the verge of being able to announce a fifth summer signing, who will follow Lee, Craig Westcarr, Ricky Ravenhill and Neal Bishop into pre-season training tomorrow.
