Notts snap up Ben Davies

Notts County have today secured the signing of highly rated Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ben Davies on a three-year contract. News of the Magpies' interest in Davies first became apparent two weeks ago and was reported on NCM, but interest from League One sides including Millwall and Bristol Rovers seemed to have made the move unlikely, but after strong speculation over the past few days the signing has finally been confirmed by the club.

Davies is a creative midfielder with a definate eye for goal, having scored 31 goals in the past three seasons at Shrewsbury, and is also a set piece expert. He came through the ranks as a youngster at hometown club Walsall, before moving on to Kidderminster Harriers then Chester City, where he gained a reputation for his creative talents and sweet right boot. A controversial free transfer move to local rivals Shrewsbury followed, and at the end of his contract he has again chosen to move on a bosman, this time signing a three-year deal at Meadow Lane.

The news comes as a massive boost to fans, who saw winger Myles Weston leave to join Brentford earlier today. Davies is the first signing of the close season that can really be put down to the impending takeover of the club by Munto Finance Ltd., and is certainly one to begin getting fans excited, although Ian McParland has confirmed that he hopes to land more players in the coming days, including a striker.

McParland told nottscountyfc.co.uk:-

"We've managed to secure the signature of a very talented footballer and we have fought off some very strong competition to bring him here, so I'm delighted.

Ben's goalscoring record obviously stands out but there is plenty more to his game than just his goals.

"He can get on the ball and open doors for us and his set-pieces are deadly as well. It is an exciting signing for us."

Keep tuned to NCM for the latest news from Meadow Lane!
