With hundreds of players becoming available under the Bosman ruling today, Iceman Gudjon Thordarson has moved to secure the services of former Republic of Ireland under-21 international Brian O’Callaghan.

O'Callaghan
The Irishman – who worked under Gudjon at Barnsley for a brief time – has penned a one-year deal at The ‘Lane, joining former Manchester United ‘keeper Kevin Pilkington in today signing for the club.

Callaghan, pictured, also joined Thordarson at Keflavik in Iceland, only for the player to complete a U-turn and leave shortly after signing.

Although the Icelandic side still hold his registration, the international clearance needed to complete his Meadow Lane switch looks a mere formality, with the player looking set to complete the move over the next 24 hours.

The Limerick-born defender made 90 first-team appearances at Barnsley, after moving to Oakwell from his native Ireland as a 17-year-old before later joining Worksop and Keflavik.

And, after initially being linked with the club a number of weeks ago, the versatile 24-year-old has now finally put pen-to-paper at Meadow Lane.

NCM would like to welcome the club’s second summer signing to the club.
