The Nottingham Evening Post has reported that a group of anonymous local moneymen have pledged to match every pound raised by the Supporters Trust between now and the end of the season.

Even better news is that should the Trust manage to raise £150,000, the group will double the figure to £300,000.

And everyone, it seems, is absolutely delighted by the news.

"It is a real carrot for the trust to make a fresh effort in our fund-raising," Chairman Steve Thompson, himself a Trust representative on the board, told the NEP.

"Obviously, we are talking about the kind of money that can make a real difference, particularly on the pitch.

"If we raise enough money to strengthen the squad, it is obviously going to make a big difference.

"This could be a significant boost for us."

Trust board member David Hindley, speaking on the NCM messageboard, was also delighted with the news.

"It is a fantastic incentive, and helps give our fundraising a boost," he said.

"I hope everyone on this list will be coming to the fans' forum on the 15th July and the Open Day on 24th July."

Thompson, meanwhile, was also quick to quash speculation that the exit of chief executive Patrick Nelson had come-about due to a row behind the scenes.

"There are no plans to appoint another chief executive," added Thompson.

"We are grateful to Patrick for his contribution, but the club simply could no longer afford to employ someone in the role.

"There was no fall-out: it is not a reflection on him. It was a simple matter of finances."
