Notts release seven

After finishing the season in a disappointing twenty-first place, it was clear to all close to the club that a total revamp was needed to dramatically improve the club's ever-fading fortunes.

O'Callaghan: Released
After this morning, such judgements were proved true as manager Gudjon Thordarson swung the axe, releasing a third of his playing staff.

His discharged list, however, contained few surprises, with defenders Chibuzor Chilaka, Brian O'Callaghan, midfielders Noé Sissoko and Stacey Long, strikers Matty Williams and Andy White all released along with reserve goalkeeper Shaun Marshall.

Of that list, the only relative surprise was the release of Brian O'Callaghan, who has been a regular in the side this term. Making thirty-two appearances, he is, by far, the most drawn upon inclusion of this list in terms of first team involvement, with the likes of Shaun Marshall and Stacey Long both restricted to extended periods of bench-time throughout the season, playing second or even third-fiddle to their colleagues.

Want-away striker Andy White made ten league starts for the club since his arrival from then-Championship outfit Crewe in the summer, although a combination of his lack of goals made him a prime-target for the County boo-boys, who effectively sealed the giant striker's fate. White was shipped out on-loan to Conference outfit Kidderminster mid-season, never to don the clubs colours again.

Supposedly highly-rated youngster Chibuzor Chilaka can perhaps count himself unlucky to leaving the club, despite having featured only once this season, with two further players of those leaving do so without so much as a whimper, as Malian-midfielder giant Noé Sissoko and former parts company with the club United trainee Matty Williams without so much of a whimper this campaign.

As ever, be sure to check back to
Notts County MAD throughout the course of the close season for more contract and, hopefully, transfer news from Meadow Lane.
