Notts put duo on trial

Last updated : 07 July 2010 By Jacob Daniel

There were a handful of unfamiliar faces at pre-season training this week as Notts manager Craig Short offered a handful of players trials in a bid to earn a deal at Meadow Lane. Two of these are known and we've had a trawl across the depths of Wikipedia and Google to see what we can uncover about them. One should even already be well known to Notts fans.

Kevin Smith

Age - 23

Position - Striker

Former Clubs - Leeds United, Sunderland (Wrexham, Dundee Loans), Aldershot Town, Dundee United (Raith Rovers Loan)

Stats - 45 Career Appearances, 19 Career Goals

Description - Young forward Smith has led a fairly nomadic career upto this point, but has recently caught the eye with his goalscoring form for Raith Rovers in the Scottish Football League. Without ever really making the grade in English football previously, Smith's return to north of the border has proved fruitful, bagging eighteen goals in two separate loan spells with Raith.

Krystian Pearce

Age - 20

Position - Central Defender

Former Clubs - Birmingham City (Notts County, Port Vale, Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United Loans), Huddersfield Town

Stats - 62 Career Appearances, 2 Career Goals

Description - An England youth international, Pearce seems to have lost his way since leaving Birmingham for Huddersfield Town, where he made just one substitute appearances last season. Quick and strong, Pearce made a real impression at Meadow Lane with a loan spell when he was merely seventeen, making his first career appearances and scoring his first ever senior goal. Having made thirty nine appearances for Scunthorpe as they gained promotion from League One, Pearce is accustomed to this level of football and has undoubted potential.
