The basic idea was this. Gary (who ended up as the Scarecrow) Spencer's
birthday was the 3rd of September and Adrian (Cowardly Lion) Ward's is 13th
of September, so as they both live away from Nottingham and still wanting to
celebrate with our footy mates, we decided to dress in fancy dress for the
Oldham game. After much debate (Adrian was determined to dress as a woman,
and Gary steadfastly refused to) we'd whittled it down to two options. Those
being the Wizard of Oz and Star Wars. I went to the Fancy Dress hire place
on the Friday afternoon and plumped for the Wizard of Oz for a few reasons.

with most of them being latex masks, they weren't exactly condusive to
alcohol intake (a pre-requisite for the day).
By 12.30pm on the Saturday, dress was on & make-up being liberally daubed on
by my other half Claire. We drove to the pub via the ground where Adrian
was set upon by a gang of 10 year olds whilst he queued up for his ticket.
On arrival at the Vat & Fiddle, we treated the locals to our rendition of
"Off to see the Wizard," then sank a few pints & walked up to the ground.
Most of the crowd & Y-block saw the amusement, as did the police outside,
and the Oldham fans, but unfortunately the players rained on our parade by
putting in such an inept performance that the three of us may as well have
been out there on the pitch as the midfield!
Despite the result though, it was a fun day & we'll definitely do it again,
although if one more person had said to me "Careful mate, you'll go rusty in
this rain," I'm quite sure I'd have tackled them with both feet a la
Caskey!
