Notts County v Chester City match ratings

Last updated : 06 April 2009 By Dane Vincent

Star Man: Picken was Notts' biggest attacking threat.
Kevin Pilkington 4 - Could arguably have done better with both goals as he appeared to be in no-man's-land for the opener and lacked conviction in his approach for the second. Goals aside it was a quiet afternoon for the stopper.

Phil Picken 8 *STAR MAN* - Looked like County's biggest threat in attack, which is a huge worry considering he's a right-back. The on-loan Chesterfield man overlapped at every opportunity and was involved in most of the team's best moves. He was also unfortunate to have a crisp effort cannon off the cross-bar. Defensively he didn't put a foot wrong.

Michael Edwards 6 - Took his goal well with a firm strike and never really looked too troubled defensively. Debatably he could have done better in tracking Ryan Lowe who managed to pounce on a loose ball to make it 2-0.

Michael Johnson N/A - Withdrawn through injury early on.

Jamie Clapham 5 - Feebly nodded the ball towards Pilkington allowing Paul Rutherford to nip in and set up Lowe for the visitors' second goal. Apart from that mistake he looked generally steady, holding the ball up well in attacking positions at times.

Matthew Hamshaw 6 - Gives 100 percent every week without fail and it is distressing to see his efforts go unrewarded. He linked up very well with Picken and it would be great to see them pair up together next season. A back post run nearly saw him score, except he appeared to be dragged back by a Chester defender.

Richard Butcher 3 - The defence was calling out for somebody to drop deep to collect the ball from them and to Notts detriment this never happened. As Notts' creative link in the centre he just didn't seem to want the ball. His poor header also led to the opener.

John Thompson 5 - Lost his marker, David Mannix, for the opener allowing him to easily head the ball into gaping net. He did drive one low cross into the box in the second period that should have resulted in a goal and was his normal industrious self.

Myles Weston 4 - Looked very sharp early on with some great skill. He continued this with a couple of fantastic deliveries into the box, but faded

dramatically as the game went on.

Delroy Facey 4 - Should have scored twice - both from inside the six-yard box. Working hard throughout he was unable to impose himself on the game as much as he'd have liked.

Jamie Forrester 4 - Had a great opportunity to get onto Weston's first-half cross but failed to direct it accurately. He showed a few nice touches, however, he made far too many errors in his passing.

Subs:

Adam Tann 6 - Struggled to pass the ball at times because of a lack of movement but made some decent compromises. His judgement was good and he never appeared to be stretched.

Jonathan Forte 5 - Looked sharp up top but didn't see too much of the ball. He may get the nod ahead of Forrester in the next game.

Sean Canham 5 - Won plenty in the air and appeared to be striving to get into the action.
