The Football League's board of directors are scheduled to meet on Monday to consider whether the club are financially sound enough to have their league status returned following the £3million takeover by Frank Strang and Raj Bhattia.

The clubs statement is as follows: "The final acts of what is an extremely complex financial and legal process are advancing apace.

"They will ensure all the League's requirements are met, thereby ensuring the transfer of the share confirming the club's membership of the Football League will take place as planned."

When the takeover is finally completed, Billy Dearden will be able to make his first signing since taking over as manager in January 2002.
